2nd Review Meeting of TransZeroWaste EU Project

On 11–12 March 2026, the TransZeroWaste consortium gathered at the premises of Dillinger in Dillingen, Germany, for the project’s 2nd Review Meeting. The meeting brought together project partners, the European Commission Project Officer Susana Xará, and the Project Monitor Prof. Fernando Castro, providing an important opportunity to review the progress achieved so far and discuss the next steps of the project.

The two-day meeting opened with welcoming remarks and an introduction to the Dillinger site, followed by a series of presentations covering the progress of several project work packages. Partners presented updates on WP7, WP2, WP3 and WP5, highlighting the technical work carried out, recent results, and ongoing research activities.

Discussions focused on key topics including hydrogen-based steel production approaches, pelletising and microwave-assisted technologies, upgrading of low-quality iron ores, recycling of steel residues and hydrometallurgical treatment routes. These exchanges allowed partners to further align their work and discuss how the different technological developments contribute to the overall objectives of the TransZeroWaste project.

The agenda also included a site visit of Dillinger’s facilities, providing participants with valuable insights into the industrial environment and strengthening the link between research activities and practical steel production.

On the second day, the consortium continued with presentations on WP4 and WP6, followed by an open discussion and final remarks involving project partners, the Project Officer Susana Xará, and the Project Monitor Prof. Fernando Castro. The meeting also served as an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming periodic report and project review with the European Commission.

Overall, the meeting provided a productive forum for reviewing progress, exchanging knowledge among partners and ensuring alignment on the next steps of the project. The consortium looks forward to continuing its work towards developing innovative solutions for recycling steel industry by-products and supporting the transition towards zero waste in steel production.
