Installation of SmartWall panels to the external walls of the DUTH’s student dormitory building in Xanthi

SmartWall panels were delivered and installed at the Greek demonstration building along with their auxiliary equipment. The installation works were completed easily and without major issues or disturbance for the building’s residents, proving that SmartWall is an ideal solution for renovating existing and inhabited buildings.

The installation of the SmartWall system at the DUTH’s student dormitory house was successfully completed in August 2025 and was carried out in two phases: Phase A (installation of the SmartWall panels), and Phase B (installation of the system’s components and auxiliary equipment).

Before Phase A began, preparation works were performed on the existing walls and on the designated locations for the components. The installation of both the panels and their components took place after the end of the students’ exam period in July, in order to avoid any disturbance. The entire renovation process lasted approximately 2 weeks and progressed smoothly, without any major issues.

Following the completion of the installation works, all active devices and components were thoroughly tested to ensure proper operation before being handed over to the building owner. Overall, the process demonstrated that the SmartWall system can be installed rapidly and efficiently in existing buildings, provided that a skilled and well-organised workforce is available.

Throughout the prefabrication, delivery, and installation stages, AMS further developed and validated the SmartWall concept. Several configurations were designed and evaluated to identify the version that was most compatible with the specific demo site.

Within the framework of the REHOUSE project, AMS (as the provider of the SmartWall technology) had the opportunity to advance the design by addressing new challenges, enhance the concept, and ensure its safety and functionality in a different type of building. By exploring alternative materials and configurations, and by delivering ready to be installed façade panels, AMS succeeded in presenting a robust and efficient solution that responds to the social and European need to renovate the ageing building stock by using innovative and energy efficient solutions.
